W well-located Hotel with friendly staff and good food. The Hotel is a bit dated in its appearance and could be at an upper grade if rooms/bathroom had more standard items eg hairdryer, draw/shelf space). A ceiling leaking water into a bucket was not the fault of staff but did not create a good impression in reception.

Brilliant homely hotel with very pleasant and helpful staff. The food was fantastic and a great stopover hotel as I was coming from London to Scotland. All the facilities you would expect ever wish for. Great bar too with even better beer choice. Again the bar staff were polite and friendly. I booked the small double and was very comfortable and had all you would need. Even usb sockets on the wall which was useful and the shower was excellent.

We stayed here as a 1 night stopover to Scotland after driving all day we were looking forward to a warm clean room to chill in before having dinner. Our room (20) was cold and grubby with stains on the floor the pillow case and walls, some of which was mould : ( with one of the glasses used and had not been cleaned. Really i have not slept in a mouldy room since i rented my first place back in the 80’s ! and never in a hotel ! Why is the manager not sorting this? I notice when i read back through the reviews (after the fact) some one else also complained about this room …. & was moved to a Superior room but that was also not up to their expectation. Note photo of previous review & managers reply. The receptionist did change the pillow case, we would have walked out and gone elsewhere but after driving 5hrs neither of us wanted to go driving looking elsewhere and we would have lost our money. We decided to sit in the lounge area as it was the warmest place to be in this hotel even though they have the main door left open and the bar door out to the garden also left open this also helped us decide to not eat in the restaurant as this was colder than the bar! Breakfast on the buffet table was a small selection,of cold smallest croissants and only 4 ? the jam’s were only one flavour and had one already opened left with others? there was marmite & marmalade. The waitress/check in lady even got my order wrong though it was written down? forgot the bacon which was brought out to me within seconds and it was warm pale and pre-cooked just like the rest of the food, bar the fried egg! Is it too much to ask for hot crispy bacon ? There is no excuse not to cook guests breakfasts to order when they have toast and the cold section to eat while waiting… again Why is this happening ? Sadly all that this lovely old building needs is warmth,a freshly cooked breakfast and some fresh paint and carpet in room 20 ! No idea what the other rooms are like, we had booked for our return journey but this unsurprisingly is now cancelled. Manager please listen to your reviews and actually DO something about them else i cannot see your guests returning : ( M

Stayed here the night before a wedding. The main hotel rooms that we saw were great however we were in some sort of cottage room. As soon as we walked in we said it was very musty. The room was very grubby and needed a proper cleaning (See photos). Unfortunately, we were unable to get another room. The food was excellent and the staff very pleasant. The pub was great for spending a couple of hours in relaxing the afternoon away. Shame our room let the hotel down on this occasion, but as stated above the rooms in the main hotel looked great.
